Swedish Country + California Cool
In the summer of 2012, longtime People magazine editor Ulrica Wihlborg quit her job, left Hollywood and moved with her husband and three young children to a quiet coastal town in southern Sweden. To ease the transition, she had spent the year leading up to the move meticulously planning the interiors of the family’s 1920’s Swedish house, lovingly mixing the furniture she had acquired over the years with new custom pieces and natural fabrics. Ulrica’s California-Meets-Sweden interiors landed her home on the front page of Lonny magazine, and was one of the site’s most popular features of 2015. A year later, the family moved to a different home in the same Swedish town, and Ulrica’s fresh interiors were rewarded with an exclusive feature on Architectural Digest. She also got a thumbs up from famed AD 100 designer Kathryn M. Ireland, who called her design “clean, thoughtful and unpretentious…the way design should be in my book.” Now, she’s reversing the move when the family relocates to their Cape Cod-style home in Pacific Palisades, California. To pull together a house filled with function and visual harmony, she’s merging the two styles she’s grown to love. Welcome to a home where Swedish country meets California cool!
